Maigyte, Lina (Date of defense: 2014-07-01)

The research developed in the framework of this PhD thesis is a theoretical, numerical and experimental study of light beam shaping (spatial filtering, beam collimation and focusing) in the visible frequency range using ...

Experimental study of feedback-induced dynamics in semiconductor lasers : from symbolic analysis to subwavelength position sensing

Aragoneses Aguado, Andrés (Date of defense: 2014-06-18)

The aim of this thesis is the study of the dynamics induced by optical feedback in semiconductor lasers. This study aims, on the one hand, to improve our knowledge of stocahstic complex systems, and on the other hand, to ...

IFMIF accelerator facility RAMI analyses in the engineering design phase

Bargalló Font, Enric (Date of defense: 2014-05-09)

The planned International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) has the mission to test and qualify materials for future fusion reactors. IFMIF will employ the deuteron-lithium stripping reaction to irradiate the ...

Colour and technology in historic decorated glazes and glasses

Molina Giralt, Glòria (Date of defense: 2014-05-09)

Historical decorated glass and glazed ceramics are studied with the object to determine the technology of production and to relate it with the optical properties (colour, shine, opacity). Four different case of study are ...

Exploiting nonlinearity and noise in optical tweezers and semiconductor lasers : from resonant damping to stochastic logic gates and extreme pulses

Perrone, Sandro (Date of defense: 2014-02-07)

This thesis is focused on the study of stochastic and nonlinear dynamics in optical systems. First, we study experimentally the dynamics of a Brownian nanometer particle in an optical trap subjected to an external forcing. ...

Development of a simulation tool for MHD flows under nuclear fusion conditions

Mas de les Valls Ortiz, Elisabet (Date of defense: 2011-12-01)

In Nuclear Fusion Technology, MHD flows can be encountered in liquid metal (LM) breeding blankets, the part of a fusion reactor where tritium, one of the fusion fuels, is to be produced. There are several types of LM ...
