La imatge dels Estats Units d’Amèrica en la Literatura catalana contemporània (1960-2010)

Abstract

Els Estats Units han generat la majoria dels mites de la modernitat i els han exportat a la resta del món a partir dels mitjans de comunicació, estandarditzant així l’imginari popular global. Malgrat tot, però, els símbols americans han inspirat obres molt diverses que reflecteixen la cultura nacional dels seus autors i les seves procupacions individuals. Per això la imatge dels Estats Units, vista a través d’ulls foranis, dóna una perspectiva interessant de la influència d’aquest país tan poderós en d’altres nacions. Aquesta tesi, doncs, pretén analitzar com autors catalans, culturalment situats a la perifèria, perceben aquest ‘altre’ poderós situat al centre que representa Amèrica del Nord i com poden sentirse fascinats pels seus mites i alhora conservar una actitud crítica envers la seva societat.

The United States of America have generated many of the myths of modernity and have exported them to the rest of the world through their mass media, thereby, somehow, standardizing the new global popular imaginary. American symbols nonetheless have inspired very diverse works of art that reflect the national culture of their authors and their individual and unique concerns. As a consequence, the image of the United States as seen through foreign eyes gives us an interesting new perspective with regard to the influence of this powerful country on other nations. For this reason, in this thesis, I analyze how Catalan writers, considered culturally peripheral, perceive the powerful and central “other” and how they can be, at the same time, fascinated by American myths while remaining critical of the state that produces them.
