Abstract

The main objective of this thesis is to develop control strategies that facilitate the integration and widespread deployment of voltage source converters (VSCs) in the power grid and developing control design techniques to guarantee stability and certain performance and robustness requirements. With this objective, different control strategies and design methods are proposed, starting from a proposal based on making slight changes to a widely used control structure such as current vector control that improves operation in weak grids, to proposing a new one. control strategy based on a state feedback control that takes into account the multivariable nature of the problem and in which the use of a phase-locked loop (PLL) is avoided. Finally, this new control strategy for a single VSC has been applied to the converters of an offshore wind farm, operating in both grid following and grid forming modes.
