de simulación Software in the Loop.

In this thesis a complete decision-making architecture has been developed for multi-
UAV systems oriented to applications covering a target area. This architecture is
composed of two layers, the first of which has a centralized structure, while the
structure of the second layer is distributed. The centralized layer is fully implemented
in the ground control station, where it carries out the entire process of generating and
assigning tasks, as well as planning the routes thanks to the Mission Planner planning
software. As the UAVs begin executing their respective flight plans, the distributed
layer takes control of the system. At this stage the UAV initiates the exchange of
information between them on the development of the mission, which allows each UAV
to have the necessary knowledge to initiate a process of reassignment of tasks and
replanning of routes in case of an inconvenience that damages the mission fulfillment.
A modular multi-UAV simulation environment has been developed using the Software
in the Loop simulation technique. This environment supports a variety of
configurations, being able to be used as an entirely virtual environment, and also
offering the ability to perform mixed tests, in which real UAV interact with simulated
UAV. This platform has been of vital importance for the accomplishment of the present
thesis since it has allowed to carry out the whole phase of development and
implementation of the different strategies and solutions proposed.
A new route planning algorithm has been created for the coverage of an area in
minimum time using multi-UAV systems. This algorithm guarantees coverage of a
target area with several aircraft launched from the same launch area without
presenting physical interference problems. To achieve this, a strategy has been
developed for the construction of entry and exit roads for cases in which the UAV can
not directly access the assigned flight area.
A cooperation strategy based on the single-item auction (SSA) mechanism has also
been developed. This strategy allows reallocation of waypoints with the objective of
minimizing the negative effect of possible incidents in the overall time of the mission.
For this purpose a strategy of interaction between all the elements of the system
based on the exchange of periodic messages has been created.
