Abstract

Objectives The main objectives of this thesis dissertation were centered into three themes. First was to observe the impact of the latest socio-economic crisis on the conditions of employment and working conditions in the EU wage-salaried population. Second was to determinate what effect on health could have the precarious situations of the employment conditions and the worsts working condition observing the prevalence of the psychosocial risk factors, considering another extralaboral variables. The interest of last objective was to estimate the possible moderation of the Welfares Regimes over this relation with employment, work and health. Methods The population of study was the salaried workers of 24 EU member countries who answered the IV and the V editions of the European Working Conditions Survey. First a tendency study was made to appreciate the differences in the working conditions and conditions of employment in the analyzed period. After that, some Logistics Regressions Models was adjusted by age and socio-professional categories, to observe the associations of the working and employment conditions among self-perceived health according to sex. To focus in the third objective, we build a Multilivel models considering the characteristics of the individuals in conjunction with contextual variables for each country according the classification of Welfare Regimes. In the last part, logistic regressions models were adjusted to see the effects on each king of Regime in particular. Main results Last socioeconomic crisis had a notable impact on the employment conditions and working conditions in the EU manufacturing important situations of inequalities between countries and gender. The classification of Welfare Regime according the rhetorical models, help us to appreciate the differences. Before this situation of recession were a tend to increase part-time and temporary work, but at the first years it had some impact over labour market destroying significally in the Southern Regimes. This led to an increase of the fixed contract at a percentage level. However, there was a worsening of some conditions of work in general terms in almost all regimes. The results of the second part showed that the most precarious employment conditions, worst working conditions, job insecurity and other occupational areas were associated with poor health. Regarding the third objective, the differences between Welfare Regimes and the salaried population at European level could explain an 11% of the variance of the state of the health. These divergences conditioned the moderation in the exposure and prevalence to the conditions of employment, work and double presence with the health according to regimes. The Scandinavian model neutralized the adverse effects for both sexes, while the Bismarck did it in the case of men. The worst conditions of employment were associated with poor health and were clear in the southern and Anglo-Saxon. Some contextual variables of labor market and social protection were significantly associated with the state of health, but showed some inequalities of gender The results of this dissertation highlight the importance of the Welfare Regime to moderate the exposure and prevalence for certain conditions of employment, working conditions and demands of double presence on health. In regimes such as Scandinavian, they preserve poor health. These contributions add to the studies that already suggest that there was an intermediary effect, but in this thesis project, the Southern, the Anglo-Saxon for both sexes or Eastern Europe are incorporated, where the effect is clear of the worst conditions with poor health.
