Abstract
Family Connections (FC) is the most empirically supported skills training program for family members of people with borderline personality disorder. This is the first time that a randomized clinical trial with pre- and post-treatment evaluations and follow-up for family members and patients has been conducted in a Spanish population. The results for family members, compared to treatment as usual, indicate significant decreases in burden and significant increases in mastery and emotional empowerment and attention. Results for patients indicate improvements in psychological variables, emotional interference and validation. In addition, we have designed a supportive intervention with an app with Momentary Ecological Assessment and Intervention. Also, we conducted a qualitative study during confinement by COVID-19 evaluating the impact on the family environment. Finally, the aim of the thesis is to extend our knowledge about the FC program considering the efficacy of this program in the Spanish population.
